Breaking down barriers to implementation

We’re looking to build a product roadmap that enables businesses and developers to create the next generation of online experiences that are immersive, interactive, and social. The technologies that enable these next-generation experiences are rapidly maturing, and Dolby.io is equipping product teams with the tools they need to succeed as they build out this emerging category.
One thing that sets the Dolby.io platform apart is its commitment to helping customers create the very best products and services. For example, we don’t force developers to adopt our client-side SDKs to leverage our best technologies (although those are readily available if you need them). In fact, many products and services built with Dolby.io can be native to the web browser.
Technologies that elevate the user experience
Communications APIs
Dolby Voice
The first thing you notice when you hear a Dolby.io voice conference is how natural it sounds. Available across all our real-time Communications APIs and SDKs, Dolby Voice preserves the human connection through immersive, crystal-clear conversations so that you feel like you’re in the same room. Dolby Voice captures how things sound in natural environments and leverages signal processing to enhance conversations across the web and within desktop and mobile applications. These enhancements include improving dialogue intelligibility through spatial chat, suppressing unwanted background noises, and leveling mic volumes in multi-party conference calls or shared 3-D spaces.

Dolby Voice in action

Dolby.io Spatial Chat

Since its beginnings in patented noise reduction back in the ‘60s, Dolby has consistently been at the forefront of audiovisual technical innovation. Most recently it has pioneered spatial chat, a revolutionary technology that places sounds all around you for a more immersive sound experience. From cinema and music to games and user-generated content, spatial audio is changing the way media is created and enjoyed. But how does it work exactly?
Spatial Chat with manual placement
Unique to Dolby.io Communications APIs, spatial chat with manual placement enables developers to define where sound comes from within a three-dimensional space, unlocking a completely new way to experience real-time conferencing and virtual environments. Individual sounds can now come from above, below, in front or behind, or even a simulated “distance” from the listener. This creates a more natural listening experience for participants.

Spatial chat for gaming and virtual worlds

Investment in research and development is a key component of Dolby’s success and we’ve been hard at work to bring spatial chat to virtual worlds. Dolby.io recently launched two new features within our Communications APIs, Spatial Mixing and Shared Scenes, that allow you to create complex three-dimensional sound stages shared by everyone nearby in your application. Not only do these features create a great sounding experience, our new Spatial mixing capabilities drastically reduce the amount of bandwidth and client-side compute resources needed to run spatial chat within an application. The end result is happy users who benefit from longer device battery life and stable connections even when joining from slower networks.

Streaming APIs
Real-time Streaming

We believe in taking latency out of the equation with our new real-time Streaming APIs. Most companies need to juggle one-to-many video streams at a time when broadcasting live events to end viewers. In that scenario, it can be difficult to maintain the speed that people are accustomed to, but don’t worry, we’ve got you covered. Dolby.io can take your media and deliver it around the globe in under 500 milliseconds while streaming to 100,000+ viewers. And we’re getting faster.

Media APIs
Media prowess

When you need to repurpose recorded voice or video for asynchronous use cases like e-Learning and podcasting, Dolby.io has a portfolio of media APIs to get you started. You can use the Dolby.io Communications APIs to create content and immediately put it into a post-processing workflow that leverages the audio and video magic you’d expect from one of the world’s leading media companies. Our Enhance API cleans up your content and our Transcode API prepares it for delivery in a variety of viewing formats so end users can enjoy it on phones, computers, or even TVs.
