The Dolby.io Live Event solution helps Livestorm offer a differentiated browser-based video engagement experience.
About Livestorm
Founded in 2016 as a final-year school project by Gilles Bertaux, Robin Lambert, Tom Forlini, and Vincent Garreau, Livestorm quickly found success as a video engagement platform due to its frictionless user experience: the end-to-end platform requires no downloads and facilitates easy collaboration. This decision to focus on the browser was well-received by the market, and in November 2020, Livestorm raised a Series B funding round of $30M.
“Many collaboration and conferencing platforms are difficult to access and require users to download software. Forcing people to download third-party applications to view content negatively impacts participation rates. I started work on Livestorm because people shouldn’t have to jump through hoops to use software, and this is one of the reasons why our customers appreciate Livestorm because it is accessible from the browser.”
Gilles Bertaux, Co-founder & CEO

Challenges that derive from browser
Designing a frictionless user experience isn’t easy, and Livestorm’s decision to create a web-based online event platform created its own set of unique technical challenges. One example is recording on-screen content, like a web page or PDF presentation through WebRTC. During a typical Livestorm event, users have individual audio and video streams and the ability to share pre-recorded media or collaborate in real-time using tools like Miro Whiteboard. While Livestorm had an out-of-the-box solution for recording audio and video streams, they needed to find a partner to capture everything else that was happening on-screen, not just the A/V – and that’s when they discovered the Dolby.io Communications APIs.

Dolby.io Call Recording API
A recording feature that does more than just audio and video
The Call Recording API, part of Dolby.io’s Live Events solution, gives Livestorm everything it needs to capture what’s happening on video participants’ screens, including shared files. It also offers Livestorm more flexibility to meet customer requirements depending on if they need full live event capture or a more bespoke combination of video, audio, and on-screen content recordings.
“Working with Dolby.io allowed us to provide great recording capabilities to our customers! The Dolby.io team was always here to help when we had questions or doubts.”
